ABOUT TANTRA |
|
|
There are no easy answers to this apparently simple question, as you
can only discover the true meaning of Tantra by exploring it yourself.
However, a brief look at Tantra’s origins should give you some idea of
what it can offer.
The word Tantra is Sanskrit in origin and can mean “an instrument used
for expansion” or “an instrument used for weaving”
Tantra is a vast body of spiritual, physical and emotional knowledge,
which can be used for expanding consciousness and understanding the
interconnectedness of all life. Where Tantra varies from other
spiritual, psychological and personal development teachings is that it
is firmly rooted in the here and now, using the energies of the body as
fuel for spiritual development.
Tantric teachings originated in India approximately 5,000 years ago,
and spread throughout Asia. However the great centres of Tantric
teaching were destroyed during the Moghul invasion of India. As a
consequence, these teachings have largely fallen into disuse in
“spiritual” Asia. It is in the “materialist” West that the sacred flame
of Tantra nowadays burns brightest, thanks to the New Age Movement and
the considerable public interest in personal and spiritual development.
